Laura Allison Jackson (née Carden), age 69, passed away peacefully at home on June 9, 2025, in Rose City, Michigan, following a 15-year battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Although her journey with Alzheimer’s was a challenging one, we refuse to let it tarnish our love for her or the abundance of precious memories we have of the kind, joyful, selfless, and fun-loving person she was before the disease took its toll.
Born on February 17, 1956, in Dearborn, Michigan, Laura was the daughter of Alfred Carden Sr. and Mittie “Laura” Allison. She grew up in Garden City, Michigan, graduating from West High School in 1974.
In 1988, Laura graduated from Monroe County Community College School of Nursing. She went on to dedicate 23 years of compassionate service as a registered nurse at Mercy Memorial Hospital in Monroe, Michigan, with coworkers who felt more like sisters to her.
Laura shared a full and beautiful life with her beloved husband of 45 years, Howard Jackson. They met in the spring of 1979 and remained at each other’s side since that very first week. Together, they built a family filled with warmth and laughter.
Family was the heart of Laura’s world. And to them, wherever she was felt like home. Time and again, she selflessly put the needs of the people she loved above her own.
She was a devoted mother to Sarah Cooke (Christopher) and Charles Jackson (Melinda), and a loving sister to Cathleen Chidester, Sandra LaPorte, and Alfred Carden Jr. She held dear the memory of her late sister Margaret “Micki” Carden.
But by far, Laura’s favorite title was Nana, and she did it so very well. She took joy in creating a warm, welcoming space for her family to gather as often as she could have them. Delicious baked goods, crafts, Bible story time, music, and laughter were staples in Nana’s house. She frequently lovingly encouraged her grandchildren to pause for just a moment and listen to the sounds of nature. They adored her and would quite literally follow Nana anywhere, unwilling to leave her side even for a moment. The feeling was mutual. She loved them fiercely with every fiber of her being. Her memory lives on through her cherished grandchildren: Riley Pryor (Elijah), McKenna Cooke, Amelia Cooke, Lucy Cooke, Charlotte Cooke, Maverick Cooke, Hadassah Cooke, Addelene Jackson, Tanner Jackson, Ainslee Jackson, and Tucker Jackson.
A devoted member of Carleton Community Baptist Church in Carleton, MI, for nearly three decades, she served in the nursery, children’s church, VBS, and any other way she could. She dearly loved her church family. She joined Mio Baptist Church in 2013 after moving to Rose City, where compassionate members helped her continue to serve in nursery and worship with the choir even as her disease progressed. Laura began her walk with Christ forty-three years ago and trusted wholeheartedly that He would complete the good work He had begun in her way back then. She frequently declared that one day she would leave this shell behind and be at home with Jesus. Her faith has now been made sight.
Laura Allison Jackson leaves behind a legacy of faith, laughter, compassion, and unwavering love for her family. May her memory bring comfort to all who knew and loved her. A Memorial Service will be held on June 19, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Mio Baptist Church, 357 S. Mount Tom Rd.
