Laura was the matriarch of our family, a legend in her own right; when she walked in the room we would often sing "Here she comes Mrs. America " She absolutely loved life, from the waking of every sunrise to the setting of the sun she would make the absolute most out of very day she was given. She poured her life into blessing her 3 children, her husband (s) and her grandchildren. You couldn’t out give or out cook her. She was famously known throughout the area for her old fashioned kitchen where she blessed everyone who entered with the biggest stacks of fresh pancakes and always ready for a "coffee break". She absolutely loved living on the farm and was most proud of her flower beds of which people would be caught stopping by just to take pictures, "even Better Homes and Garden" she would say with a bright smile on her face. She was a caretaker at heart and most of her life had an extra guest staying at their home. She was full of wisdom and common sense and would preach the secret to living such a long and healthy life was by getting up every morning and working and don't be lazy. Work was her cure for everything but she made it fun - from gardening, bailing hay, cutting and stacking wood, taking care of animals, yard sales or decorating the town's floats for parades she loved it all. At the end of the day you would find her all dressed up with perfectly done hair, makeup and jewelry ready to go out for a country drive, to dinner or shopping.
We will forever cherish the most memorable holidays from all day long Easter egg hunts to all night Christmases with endless gifts and even more homemade pies and cookies. She made our childhoods so special and is our biggest mentor; teaching us to be strong and persevere, to work hard and play hard and take care of everybody around us. She will be sadly missed but forever cherished in our hearts and heritage.
