Larry Lee O'Dell

Larry O’Dell, 85, of McKinley, Michigan passed away peacefully on August 23, 2022. He is preceded in death by his brother, Tim O’Dell, his parents, Malcom and Beatrice O’Dell and “Uncle Matt.”

Larry left behind his loving wife of 64 years, Joanne.  Also mourning his passing are his daughters, Kim Hudson, Tara Urse (Chuck) and Laryl McKinzie (Perry), and grandchildren Cristi (Josh), Teresa, Mariah, Kelly, Brandie (Mitchell) and Cordell as well as great-grandchildren Brett, Rose and Luke.

Larry was born June 20, 1937 in Detroit, Michigan and worked as a cabinet maker, owning his own custom cabinet company before retiring to Northern Michigan. Larry continued his craft, remodeling his log cabin home near the AuSable River. During his career, Larry mentored many young people including some that became part of the O’Dell family (Bryan Hudson and Patrick Noonan).  He will also be missed by lifelong friends and good neighbors, all with a story to tell.

Some might be surprised to know that Larry played 12-string guitar, was an excellent cook and enjoyed Harry Chapin’s music and could often be found dancing to his favorite tunes. Larry was an avid outdoorsman from childhood and enjoyed many outdoor activities including fishing, hunting, boating, mushrooming, motorcycle and ATV riding. He will be fondly remembered for his quick wit and sense of humor.

Per Larry’s request, no memorial services are planned.
