Larry A. Gooch

Larry Allen Gooch, 64, of Mio, MI, passed away peacefully at home on April 4, 2026, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born in Grosse Pointe Farms, MI to the late James and Wilma Gooch. Larry later made Mio his home for more than 25 years.

Known affectionately as a walking encyclopedia, Larry had an unquenchable curiosity. Whatever he didn't know, he made it his mission to learn — and whatever he learned, he freely shared. He lived by a simple but powerful motto: learn it, do it, teach it. That same hunger for understanding shaped every corner of his life. He was drawn to timeless things: the craftsmanship of a well-made watch, the rumble of a Harley, the satisfaction of a car brought back to life. His Catholic faith was no different — it wasn't something he simply held; it was something he lived, reflected in the patience, generosity, and genuine care he showed everyone around him.

Above all else, Larry was a provider — for his family, his friends, and any stranger who crossed his path. He was the go-to man, the one people called when they needed help, advice, or simply someone they could trust — and he always made the time. Many never fully realized just how much they valued his counsel until they needed it most. His personality was magnetic and warm; he could make anyone laugh with a perfectly timed, witty remark. He never held a grudge, always gave others the benefit of the doubt, and met every challenge with quiet, unwavering strength. He was, in the truest sense, the ultimate husband, father, brother, and friend.

Larry is survived by his beloved wife, Shammy Gooch; his daughter and son-in-law, Cally and Yousif Slim; and his siblings, Jeannette Hallman, Joyce McReynolds, Michael Gooch, and Chris Gooch. A memorial gathering will be held at Lashley Funeral Home on Saturday, April 18, 2026 from 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM.
