Kenneth R. Monk

Kenneth R. Monk, age 86 of Mio, Michigan, passed away at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City, MI on Wednesday, June 22, 2016.
Kenneth was born in Milan, Michigan on January 10, 1930 to Harley and Edythe (Rhora) Monk. He worked as a farmer in Monroe County. Ken married Helen Maddux on February 27, 1954 in Britton, MI. The couple moved to Mio in 1968, where Ken worked as a self- employed sawyer. He was a member of the Mio Baptist Church. His first love was his Lord, and he also loved his wife, children, and grandchildren. Ken enjoyed restoring antique tractors, hit & miss engines, and steam engines. He especially liked taking his sawmill to steam engine shows.
Kenneth is survived by his wife Helen of Mio, MI; his children: Richard (Gwen) Monk of Fairview, MI and Debra (Scott) Abbe of Fairview, MI; his sister Phyllis Sisty of Tecumseh, MI; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and also many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. An Informal Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, July 2, 2016 at the Mio Baptist Church at 1 PM.
