Kay Ann Matthews,age 67 of Mio, passed away Friday, December 3, 2010, at Siani-Grace Hospital in Detroit, Michigan.
Kay was born in Johannesburg, MI on July 4, 1943 to Alvin and Wilma (Joslin) Matthews and was raised in Mio, Michigan.  Kay received her B.A. in English from the University of Michigan-Flint.  She lived in Grand Rapids where she worked as an account representative for Blue Cross/Blue Shield. She taught school in Byron Center, Michigan. Kay lived in Grayling, Michigan, where she worked for Davis Jewelers for many years.  Kay returned to Mio and was a substitute teacher at Mio and Fairview Schools.  She learned to play the piano by ear, and was an accomplished musician with many different instruments she tried; including the ukelele, banjo, guitar, accordian and many others.  Kay had a close relationship with God.  She was a member of Mio Baptist Church.  She was also a member of the Tea Party Group and a fond wearer of hats. She lit up the room wherever she went, with her wit, humor and zest for life.
Surviving are her mother Wilma W. Matthews of Mio; her children:  K. Duane Jorgensen of Millington, MI; Teresa (Blair) Willard of Washington, MI; David (Katie) Matthews of Zeeland, MI; and Darrin (Nikki) Matthews of Grand Haven, MI; her husband Larry D. Hardy of Mio, MI; her sister Shauna Matthews; her brothers: Arney and Ron Matthews; and 6 grandchildren: Mitchell, Meagan, Melanie, Noah, Levi, and Judah.
Visitation on Tuesday, December 7, 2010 from 11AM - 1 PM at Mio Baptist Church  with Funeral Services at 1 PM with Pastor Glynn McMorris and Pastor David Barker offficiating.  Interment at Fairview Cemetery.
