Joyce Marie Stearns

June 16, 1948 — August 4, 2025

In loving memory of Joyce Marie Stearns, June 16, 1948 – August 2, 2025. Joyce was 77 and a resident of Luzerne Michigan.  She passed away peacefully with her family by her side.  Funeral visitation will be Friday, August 8 from 5 PM – 8 PM, and Saturday, August 9, starting at 11 AM with the funeral at 1 PM at Lashley Funeral Home in Mio, Michigan.

Joyce was born in Lansing, Michigan and enjoyed her youth and many adventures with her mother Helen, father Gerald LaDuke and brother Dale.   Helen later married James Peddy and raised his two young sons, Al and James, making them stepbrothers to Joyce.

Joyce worked at and attended Michigan State where she received her Associate’s Degree.  She proceeded on to work for General Motors for 17 years.  During that time, she met and married Marvin Stearns on September 17, 1983.  They built their own beautiful home in Luzerne, Michigan and enjoyed the last 42 years creating a beautiful, protected piece of land where they enjoyed their waterfall, watching the deer, hunting, gardening, tubing down the Ausable River, taking family and friends on hayrides, singing karaoke on the cabin porch, and enjoying time with family and friends around the campfire.  They spent many winters in New Smyrna Beach, Florida, enjoying the warm weather and their walks on the beach.

In her spare time, Joyce enjoyed playing several games on her tablet, loved creating beautiful pieces of stained glass for her family and friends, and decorating their home with beautiful pieces.   Her good friend Irene picked her up to join the Red Hats Society ladies for lunch every Thursday.  She was an excellent cook and enjoyed gathering family to share her recipes. She loved to travel and created many memories with Marv, the love of her life. The special bond they had was one of a kind and will be carried in his heart forever.

Holding memories close in their hearts are husband Marv, children Therese (Rod) Church, Butch (Debi) Stearns, Mike’s wife Lisa Stearns, and Cathy Wheeler, brothers Dale (Diane) LaDuke, James (Mike) Peddy, and Al Peddy.   She held a lot of love for her many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, cousins, and close friends.

She was preceded in death by her late father Gerald, and her parents Helen and Jim Peddy, stepsister Lilly Peddy, son Mike Stearns, and granddaughter Sarah Bush.

Visitation will be held 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday, August 8, 2025 and from 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 9, 2025 until the time of Funeral service at 1:00 PM at The Lashley Funeral Home in Mio, MI.
In accordance with her wishes, cremation will follow the service.

As Joyce suffered her last few years with Parkinson’s disease, her family asks that any donations be given to the Parkinson’s Research Foundation, PO Box 96318, Washington DC 20090-6318.
