Joyce Schermerhorn

Joyce Schermerhorn, age 85, passed away at The Home at AuSable Valley Community in Fairview, MI, on Friday, May 10, 2013.
Joyce was born in Pontiac, Michigan on November 30, 1928 to William D. and Margaret Lessard- Jackson-Kitzman.  At the age of 16, she joined the order of The Sisters of St. Joseph of Nazareth, Michigan. She left the convent at the age of 45 to marry Raymond B. Schermerhorn, and moved to Florida.  In 2009, she moved from Florida to Fairview, MI where she thus resided.
Joyce is survived by her nephew Gerald E. Jackson, Jr. and his wife Sheri; niece Roxanne M. DeFlorio; nieces:  Debbie, Diane, Joyce, and nephew Duane; and her step-children Kathy and Ray.  She was preceded in death by her parents William D. and Margaret Lessard- Jackson-Kitzman; husband Raymond B. Schermerhorn; brother Gerald E. Jackson; and sister Lois Riggs.
In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Mary Catholic Church, Mio, Michigan on Monday, June 3, 2013 at 11AM with Rev. Santiago Hoyumpa as Celebrant.
