Joseph D. Shima

Joseph Daniel Shima, age 78, passed away on Tuesday, February 24, 2026. He was born in Detroit, Michigan on June 18, 1947 to the late Michael and Mary (Baranek) Shima.

He was known by many as 'Brother Joe'. Joe graduated from L'Arise Creuse High School, where he continued to work, and eventually retire as the school custodian. He spent many years in Fair Haven, Michigan before moving to Mio, Michigan to be closer to his family.

Joe had a love for Harley Davidson motorcycles and classic cars. He loved attending car shows, fishing, talking to people, and was a food connoisseur. Joe also enjoyed parades and fireworks. He was always friendly, kind, and had a great sense of humor.

Joe is survived by his sisters, Mary Jozwiak, and Debbie Coulon; niece, Wendy Dych and her husband, Jeff Dych, and grand-niece, Sydney Dych. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Michael Sherman.
