Joseph ""Joe"" Orlando Larrison, age 88 of Mio, MI, passed away on Thursday, March 14, 2013 at his home.
Joe was born on June 12, 1924 in Wawpecong, Indiana to Dr. J. W. and Irene (Smith) Larrison. He graduated from Fairview High School and was the star basketball player on their team. He served in the US Navy during WWII in Germany. Joe attended and graduated from the Wayne State University Department of Mortuary Science in 1950. He owned and operated Larrison Funeral Home and Ambulance Services with his wife Donna from 1950 â?? 1981. Joe was a member of the Mio United Methodist Church; the Mio United Methodist Men; the Mio I.O.O.F Lodge # 415 and the Mio Rebekah Lodge #16; he was an Honorary/Lifetime Member of the Mio VFW, post 4126; He also volunteered for 12 years at Tolfree Free Hospital/ West Branch Regional Medical Center. He enjoyed clock making and truley loved the people and area of Oscoda County. Joe will always be remembered for his gentleness and quiet dignity. Donna said that she is ""still training him!""
Surviving are his wife Donna of Mio, MI; his children: Mike (Pam) Larrison of Rose City, MI and Dave (Martha) Larrison of Mio, MI; his son-in-law Terry Burrus of Virginia Beach, VA; his sister Jean (Bob) Shantz of Fairview, MI; his sister-in-law Evelyn Larrison of DeForest, WI; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his step-mother Wilma (Lantz) Larrison; his daughter Jodi Larrison Burrus; his brothers: Emerson and Dick Larrison; and his sister-in-law Shirley Larrison.
Visitation Friday, March 15, 2013 from 6-9 PM, and on Saturday, March 16, 2013 from 1-4 and from 6-9 PM with a Rebekah Service offered at 7 PM at the Lashley Funeral Home, Mio, MI. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, March 17, 2013 at 2 PM with viewing from 1 PM until the time of service at the Mio United Methodist Church, Mio, MI with Pastors Tracy Brooks and Virgil Hershberger officiating. Interment to follow at Mentor Township Cemetery, Mio, MI, with Military Honors offered by the Mio VFW, Post 4126.
