John Radwanski

John Radwanski, age 87 of Curran, Michigan, passed away at his home on Tuesday, August 2, 2022.

John was born in Hamtramck, Michigan on June 24, 1935 to John and Alexandria (Szydlik) Radwanski. He attended Western Michigan University under a Basketball scholarship, receiving a Master’s degree in Education. John married Leocadia “Dolly” Malczewski on April 27, 1957 in Hamtramck. He held many positions in the Hamtramck community over the years: he was Superintendent of the Hamtramck Public Schools; Police & Fire Commissioner for Hamtramck; Civil Defense Director; Hamtramck High School Varsity basketball coach; middle school principal, Oakland County Sheriff Marine Patrol; and Suburban Champion basketball coach in 1965. Following John’s retirement, the couple lived in Gaylord before settling in Curran in 1995. They built their home on their property in Curran that they had owned since 1972. John was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Mio, MI; a 3rd Degree member of the Mio Knights of Columbus Council #7329; Comins Eagles; Mio Lions Club; the National Wild Turkey Federation; and the Hamtramck Optimist Club.

John is survived by his wife Leocadia “Dolly” Radwanski and his nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents: John & Alexandria Radwanski, his sisters: Ann McCullough and Helen Wyszcmierski, and his brother Leon J. Radwanski.

In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, August 13, 2022 at 10 AM at St. Mary Catholic Church, Mio, Michigan with Rev. Santiago Hoyumpa officiating.
