John J. Boback age 89, of Muskegon, formerly of Lakeland, Fl and of Mio, MI passed away Sunday, August 17, 2014 in Muskegon.
John was born on January 4, 1925 in Nanty Glo, PA to Catherine and Michael Boback.
John had 1 brother and 5 sisters. Martha Januszek, Michael Boback, Irene Beranek, Dorothy Biduel , Catherine Drew and Barbara Mackman
On August 31st 1946 John married the love of his life Elizabeth (Betty) Jones in Detroit, MI together they made their home in Warren, Mi and raised 4 children: Kenneth Boback (Pat) of Sterling Heights, MI; Kathleen Boback, who predeceased as a small child of 2 and a half years of age; Shirley Westbrook (Dana) of Norton Shores, MI and Mary Ott (Terry) of Pinconning, MI; John and Betty have 8 grandchildren :Kenneth Boback ( Debbie); Matthew Boback (Laura); Michael Westbrook (Heather); Christopher Boback; John Westbrook (Amber); Rhonda Westbrook Mingus (Allan); Sarah Ott and Kristen Ott
They were also blessed with 13 Great grandchildren
John served his county during WWII when he enlisted in the Navy and was stationed at Pearl Harbor receiving The American Area Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Area Ribbon and the WWII Victory Ribbon.
Upon retiring after 31 years with Chrysler Corp, he retired to his beloved northern MI. Making their home for the next 30 years in Luzerne, MI. John was active in the Luzerne American Legion post 162 and served as vice commander.
A member of St Mary's Catholic Church in Mio, John was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and was a 4th degree honorary member.
John was one-of-a-kind. Besides hunting, trout fishing, warm weather in Florida, the tigers and poker John loved to laugh and have beer or two with family and friends. John was blessed with a large family that knew how to have a good time He will be greatly missed but always loved and remembered by those that loved him.
Visitation Thursday, August 21, 2014 from 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM at Lashley Funeral Home, Mio with a Parish Prayer Vigil Service and 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Rosary at 7:00 PM. Visitation will also be held on Friday, August 22, 2014 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Mio, MI, from 9:00 AM until the time of The Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM with Reverend Santiago Hoyumpa officiating.
Interment at Luzerne Cemetery, Luzerne, MI with Military Honors offered by the Luzerne American Legion Post # 162.
