Joan Emeline Collins

Joan Emeline (Dobat) Collins, age 81 of Mio, Michigan, passed away at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City, Michigan on Saturday, October 23, 2021.

Joan was born in Rochester, Michigan on November 8, 1939 to the late Carl and Glenwood (Stickney) Dobat. She was the youngest of 5 children. Joan lived her entire life on a farm. She was involved in a variety of activities throughout her life. From an early age, Joan participated in 4-H and was a long- time Leader when her children were involved with 4-H as well. She played the saxophone and was a part of the school band; along with her family’s band also. Joan worked as a Camp Fire leader and was a Cub Scout Pack Leader. As life transitioned, she became more involved with the church and community. She helped with Heritage Days, the Blessing of the Bikes; and church dinners to name a few.

Joan is survived by her 4 children: Michelle (Greg) Sharits, Todd (Pam), Barry (Michael), and Brooke; her grandchildren: Nicole (Paul), Sarah, Elizabeth, Melissa, Cody, and Victoria (Brent); her great-grandchildren: Angelica, Caiden, Cascity, Zowee, Bryson, Madelynn, and Sawyer; and her great-great-grandchildren: Xavier and Sofia. She is also survived by her siblings: Marilyn Burnham and Ralph Dobat, her sister-in-law Charlotte (Dave) Deshelter, and numerous extended family. Joan was preceded in death by her husband Alfred B. Collins, sisters Marjorie and Shirley, and numerous extended family.

Visitation on Thursday, October 28, 2021 from 3 – 9 PM at the Lashley Funeral Home, Mio, MI, and also on Friday, October 29, 2021 at TriPoint Church of God, Mio, MI from 10 AM until Funeral Services at 11 AM with Pastor Jody Coon officiating. Interment will follow at Kittle Cemetery, Mio, Michigan.
