Janis L. Sanderson

April 24, 1924 — May 28, 2015

Janis L. Sanderson, age 91 of Mio, Michigan, passed away at The Brooks in Grayling on Thursday, May 28, 2015.
Janis was born in Lansing, Michigan on April 24, 1924 to the late Ralph and Glennie (Smith) Money. She married B. Donald Sanderson in Mio on January 19, 1948.   The couple moved to Lapeer, MI, where they lived until 1973 when they moved back to Mio and opened “Sanderson Floor Covering”.  Janis worked there with Donald as a bookkeeper until the mid1980’s.   Janis served as Big Creek Township Treasurer for many years.  She was a member of the Mio United Methodist Church and was active in her community, serving on several county boards and committees.  Janis enjoyed painting, basket weaving, ceramics, playing piano, and sewing.
Janis is survived by her daughter Judy (Dave) Utley of Mio; 2 grandchildren:  Jamie (Joey) DeGrammot of Mio, MI and David (Tracy) Utley of Mio, MI; 6 great-grandchildren:  Layla, Bryce, Abygail, Dawson, Tanner and Lea; her sister Lorna “Janie” (Richard) Palmer of Venice, FL; her brother Kenneth Money of Frederic, MI; her sister-in-law Viola “Johnnie” Money of Ocala, FL; and several beloved nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband B. Donald Sanderson on February 21, 2006; her brothers:  Gloyd, Keith, and Garth Money; and her sisters:  Judy Neff and JoAnn VanCamp.
Visitation on Friday, May 29, 2015 from 1-4 and from 6-9 PM at Lashley Funeral Home, Mio, MI, and again on Saturday, May 30, 2015 from 9 AM until the time of Funeral Services at 10 AM at the Mio United Methodist Church, Mio, MI with Pastor Brenda Klacking officiating.  In accordance with her wishes, cremation will follow the funeral service.
Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Helping Hands of West Branch or to the Mio United Methodist Church.
