James A. "Shorty" Adkins, 81, of Luzerne, MI, passed away Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at Munson Grayling Hospital, Grayling, Michigan.
James was born in Dorton, Kentucky on February 11, 1937, a son of the late Joy (Greer) and Sidney Adkins .He moved to Michigan in 1955. He married Dorothy on August 3, 1956 in Kent, Maryland. The couple lived in Ypsilanti, Michigan, where Jim worked at the Ypsilanti Ford Parts Plant for 32 1/2 years, retiring in 1986. He was a member and committee rep for UAW Local 849. The couple retired to Luzerne, Michigan in 1986. Jim was a former member of the Mio Moose Lodge. He had enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, dune buggies, 4 wheelers, camping, old cars (having owned a 1952 Ford "Flat Head"),and.casinos,
James is survived by his wife Dorothy of Luzerne, Michigan; his children: Phillip (Tami) Adkins of Livonia, Michigan, and Deborah (Eugene) Allan of Holly, Michigan; his grandchildren: Sean, Sara (Jacob), Dan, Sarah, Joe, and Marie (Timmy); and his great-grandchildren: Hunter, Noah, Lucas, Andrew, Brynley, and Owen. He is also survived by his siblings: Donnie, Ruby, Linda, Kenny, Samantha, Nina, Glen, Leon, and Doug; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his step-mother Nevel Adkins, his daughter Diane, his brothers Charles, Larry, Sidney, Cletus,and Wayne; and his sister Glinda,
Visitation on Thursday, May 31, 2018, from 5-8 PM at the Lashley Funeral Home, Mio, MI, and again on Friday, June 1, 2018 from 12 Noon until the Funeral Service at 1 PM at Lashley Funeral Home with Pastor Ron Janiszewski officiating. Interment to follow at Luzerne Cemetery, Luzerne, Michigan.
