James R. Richmond, Jr., age 84 of Mio, Michigan, passed away at The Home at Wellspring Lutheran Services on Tuesday, February 16, 2016.
James was born in Shelburn, Indiana on March 16, 1931 to James Sr. and Carrie (Hedges) Richmond. He moved to the Pontiac area when he was 15 years old. James worked for Ford, Chrysler, and later General Motors as a tool & die maker; working for GM Truck & Bus in Pontiac. He was also a hog farmer for 15 years. He married Betty Wilson on March 20, 1981 in North Branch, MI. The couple retired to Mio in 1993, where he was active in real estate, rebuilding and restoring homes. James loved gardening and his pond at home. He attended Mio Church of God, now known as Tripoint Church of God.
James is survived by his wife Betty of Mio, MI; his children: Jeffery (LouAnn) Richmond of Flat Rock, MI; Russell (Kendra) Richmond of Romulus, MI; Andrew (Connie) Richmond of North Branch, MI; and Earl Brooks of North Branch, MI; 10 grandchildren; 1 great-granddaughter; and his best friends: Chuck Conaire and Brian Wodisess. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, 2 sisters, and his first wife Shirley Richmond.
Visitation on Saturday, February 20, 2016 from 3-8 PM at the Lashley Funeral Home, Mio, MI; Sunday, February 21, 2016 from 1 – 8 PM also at the Lashley Funeral Home. Visitation will also be held on Monday, February 22, 2016 from 10 AM until Funeral Services at 11 AM at the Tripoint Church of God, Mio, MI, with Pastor John Proctor officiating. Interment will be at the Westlawn Cemetery, North Branch, Michigan.
Memorial donations may be made to: Tripoint Mio Church of God Youth Group; Ogemaw County Animal Shelter; or to The Home at Wellspring Lutheran Services.
