Mr. James Kafritsas, age 75, of Grayling, MI, passed away Monday, May 16, 2011 at his home.
James was born on August 15, 1935 in Detroit, Michigan to Angelo and Stella (Korycinski) Kafritsas. Jim was raised in Delray and Hazel Park, MI He served his country in the US Army, stationed in Germany; where he married Anita, the love of his life, in 1956. The couple lived in Sterling Heights where Jim taught music: piano, organ, accordion, and guitar. Jim was known affectionately as ""Mr. K"" by his students. He was renowned for his music and piano abilities. Jim and Anita retired to Grayling in 1995, spending winters in Bradenton, FL. Jim was an avid fisherman and boater.
Surviving are his wife Anita; his children: ""Miriam"" Christine (Rob) Shear of Israel; Lori (Joe) Shorkey of Shelby Twp., MI; and Vicki (Randy) Burns of Winter Springs, FL; his grandchildren: Veronica, Bill, Joey, Chana, and Moshe; his sister Connie Dallas of Wisconsin, and 2 great granddaughters. Jim was preceded in death by his parents; his son James A. Kafritsas, and his granddaughter Jessica Shorkey.
Visitation Wednesday, May 18, 2011 from 5-9 PM at Lashley Funeral Home, Mio, MI with a Vigil Service and Rosary at 7PM offered by Mr. James Slasinski of St. Mary Parish. On Thursday, May 19, 2011, Jim will lie in state from 10 AM until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM at St. Mary Catholic Church, Mio, with Fr. Raymond Cotter officiating. Interment at Mio Cemetery, Mio, MI, with Military Honors offered by the Luzerne American Legion Post #162.
