Howard Everett Wideman

July 30, 1935 — June 11, 2024

On June 11, 2024, Howard Everett Wideman entered with joy into the presence of his Lord and Savior.  He was born in Flint, Michigan on July 30, 1935.  He served in the United States Army from 1954-1958.  In the Spring of 1957, he accepted Christ as his personal Savior.
August 9, 1957, he married Elizabeth Waters.  Together they faithfully served their Lord.  For eleven years, they served at Five Points Community Church in Pontiac, Michigan. Howard worked in the Boys’ Brigade, sang in the choir, and was custodian, while raising a family and working on buses for the Birmingham school district.
In 1969, the family moved to Oscoda County, where they served at Camp Barakel for 31 years.  Howard was in charge of keeping all the vehicles in working order, keeping the roads maintained, building a fire department, and other various jobs where God gifted him.
During those years, he was also active in the community by working on the Sheriff’s auxiliary and driving school buses.
Family was important to Howard.  He loved each family member and enjoyed watching as they grew in the Lord.  Howard and Liz’s children grew up watching their parents’ love and faithfulness to God, to each other, to their family, and to all those they had contact with. Howard showed extraordinary love and sacrifice as he cared for Liz for many years as she went through numerous cancer treatments. In July of 2010, he was preceded in death by Liz, his loving wife of 53 years. Rejoicing in the life he led are his children: Howard & Robyn, Charles & Joyce, Philip, Mary & Mark, Alan & Angie. Another special person in his life that he lovingly referred to as son, was Sheriff Kevin Grace. Howard also enjoyed the times he spent with his 17 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
We as a family would like to thank the many people who covered Dad with their love.  For Pastor McMorris and the church family of Mio Baptist Church, the amazing show of love with visits, phone calls, and many delicious meals are greatly appreciated.

On Tuesday, June 18, from 5-8 PM, there will be a viewing at the Lashley Funeral Home in Mio, Michigan.
