Henry Smith

Henry L. ""Jack"" Smith, age 101, of Fairview, MI, passed away Friday, March 23, 2012 at The Home at AuSable Valley Community in Fairview.
Jack was born on February 6, 1911 in Herriman, Tennessee to John Alexander and Adelade Perle (Lewis) Smith.  The family moved to Fairview when Jack was 2 years old, and he was a resident of Oscoda County for 99 years.  Jack married Emily Notestine on February 4, 1933 in Comins, MI.  He worked as a dairy farmer on the family farm.  Jack attended the Mio United Methodist Church and was a member of the Kirtland Warbler Audubon Society.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and listening to gospel and old country music.
Surviving are his children: Virginia (Earl) Stitt of Fairview; Kathy (Robert) Gusler of Luzerne, Patricia Scott of Fairview, and John (Marty) Smith of Fairview; his 11 grandchildren:  Linda, Randy, Roberta, Cindy, Lisa, Bradley, Keith, Kay, Laurie, Kristie, and Karen; 34 great grandchildren; 35 great-great grandchildren; and 4 great-great-great grandchildren.  Jack was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Emily; his brothers and sisters:  Florence Winn, Coral Mischler, Carmen Smith, Lewis Smith, Ellis Smith, and William Smith; his 3 grandsons:  Dennis Stitt, Russell Duby and Robert Gusler, Jr. and his son-in-law Robert Scott.
Visitation Sunday, March 25, 2012, from 4-8PM at Lashley Funeral Home, Mio, and again on Monday, March 26, 2012 from 10AM until the Funeral Service at 11 AM at the Mio United Methodist Church with Rev. Marcel Lamb and Pastor Virgil Hershberger officiating.  Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Fairview, MI.
