Gerald Michael Polk

Gerald M. Polk, age 77 of Luzerne, Michigan, passed away at the Crawford Continuing Care Center in Grayling, Michigan on Tuesday, October 8, 2019.

Gerald was born in Detroit, Michigan on August 31, 1942 to Harvey and Evelyn (Michalski) Polk. He was raised in the Gagetown/Cass City/Ubly area. He graduated from Cass City High School in 1960, then attended the University of Michigan, from which he graduated in 1964 with a Bachelor’s Degree. Gerald married Judy in 1965. He went to OCS in New Port, Rhode Island in 1965, and was in active duty with the US Navy until 1968. He moved his family back to Gagetown, Michigan and began employment with the State of Michigan in 1968 with the Department of Social Services. In 1969, he transferred to the Department of Corrections. He was a Probation Agent in Tuscola County, and was later promoted to Supervisor in Tuscola, Huron, Lapeer, and Sanilac Counties. He later transferred to the Oscoda County office, supervising 8 counties until his retirement in 2002. Gerald was a member of the University of Michigan Alumni Association and the Michigan Snowmobile and ORV Association. He enjoyed tinkering in his workshop, daily morning coffee in Luzerne, snowmobiling, and doing anything that involved him riding one of his John Deere tractors. He most loved spending time with the love of his life, Judy.

Gerald is survived by his wife Judy; his children: Chris and Anne (Leland Decker); and his granddaughter Alivia Baker. He is also survived by his step-sister Jean Uhl; his step-brother Dan (Joanne) Miller; his step-sister-in-law Andrea Miller, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Gerald was preceded in death by his parents: Evelyn and Harvey Polk; his step-father Aloise Miller; his brother Dennis; his step-brother Paul; his grandson Andrew; his step-nephew Michael; and his step-brother-in-law Harold.

In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary Catholic Church, Mio, Michigan on Saturday, November 2, 2019 at 11 AM by Rev. Santiago Hoyumpa, with Military Honors to follow. The family will receive visitors from 10 AM at the Church until the time of the Mass.
