Gerald Eugene Passmore, age 82 of Mio, Michigan, passed away at his home on Wednesday, November 26, 2014. Gerald was born in Bannister, Michigan on February 29, 1932 to George and Ella (Van Norwick) Passmore. Gerald enlisted in the Korean War and served from 1952-1954. When he returned he married MaryAnn Bakita on September 11, 1954 in Bannister, MI. They lived in Saginaw and Bay City when Gerald got hired at Consumers Power on November 1, 1954. In 1958 he moved to Mio as he transferred to Consumers in Rose City. He worked as a lineman for almost 40 years.
He will always be remembered as an honest, hardworking man. He always spoke the truth and there wasn’t anything he couldn’t fix. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, snowmobiling and camping but most importantly just spending time with his family. Gerald was known for always having a campfire in his back yard where he enjoyed sitting around and reading.
Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, George and Ella, Bothers Chum and Harold, and Sister Geraldine as well as his loving wife of 60 years, MaryAnn. Gerald is survived by his four children Jeff (Jan) Passmore of Jackson, MI; Carla (Roger) Passmore of Albany, Oregon; Luke Passmore of Mio, MI and Karen (John) McPheeters of Corvallis, Oregon; and his 7 wonderful grandchildren: Kimberly, Tommy, Brandon, Ashlee, Shelby, Cole and Jakob.
His greatest pride was his grandkids. He was always there for them, whether they needed his help, or just a listening ear and encouraging words. He was so proud of all of them and all they have accomplished. He will be greatly missed by all.
Abiding by Gerald’s wishes there will be no viewing or funeral. The family is planning a wake at a later time.
Arrangements by Lashley Funeral Home, Mio.
