Gerald 'Jerry" Joseph Downey

Gerald Joseph (Jerry) Downey, age 90, of Fairview MI, passed away on Friday Oct. 22 ,2021 at his home .
Jerry was born on January 8, 1931 in Detroit Michigan. He graduated from Imlay City High School in 1949. He married Kathy Sweeney in 1963 in Lapeer Michigan where he lived and worked at Consumers Power.
Jerry retired from Consumers in 1984 after 33 years of service. Jerry and Kathy moved to the Mio area in 1984. He left Mio in 2009 with his wife Kathy to enjoy their final retirement years in Spring Hill Florida.
Jerry enjoyed spending time with his two sons Pat and Paul, hunting, golfing and watching Michigan football in the fall. He also loved to travel with his wife Kathy and Holiday gatherings with his family.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 58 years Kathy. Parents Paul and Ethel Downey, siblings Margaret Erity, Paul Downey Jr. and Robert Downey.
Surviving are his children Patrick Downey and wife Lorri Downey, Paul Downey and wife Dawn Downey. Grandchildren Jordon Downey and wife Hailey, Phoebe, Aiden, Caden, and Acelynn Downey. Great grandchildren William and Stephanie Downey all of Fairview, Michigan.
Viewing will be at St. Mary Catholic Church in Mio, MI on Thursday Oct. 28, 2021 at 10:00 followed by The Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM, with Fr. Santiago Hoyumpa officiating. Final interment will be at Mt. Loretta Catholic Cemetery in Lapeer, MI on date yet to be determined.
The family would ask that in lieu of flowers any donation be made to the Our Lady of the Woods shrine restoration fund.
