Garland Gibson, age 84, of Lewiston, passed away Friday, March 2, 2012, at Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey, Michigan.
Garland was born in Floyd County, Kentucky on January 27, 1928 to Nathan and Alanzo (Bolin) Gibson. He served his country as a Sergeant during the Korean War. When he returned home, he moved to South Rockwood, MI, where he raised his family. He worked for McClouth Steel in Trenton, MI, retiring in 1993 after 43 years of service. He moved to Lewiston in 1996. He was a member of the Comins Eagles Aerie #3544 and the Lewiston Moose Lodge. He had enjoyed canoeing, snowmobiling, and trail riding, playing Euchre and horseshoes, but his greatest joy in life was his family.
Surviving are his children: Glenda (John Turner) Gibson of Superior, WI; Sondra Green of Lewiston, MI; Teresa (Thomas) Lefler of Traverse City, MI; Connie (Bobby) Douglas of Wyandotte, MI; and Kim (John) Maynard of S. Range, WI and their mother Willoree (Raymon) DeLeary of S. Range, WI; his 18 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters: Cora Barker and Bonnie Johnson Wilburn Gibson, Willie Gibson, Jim Bowton, and Ocie Spriggs. Garland was preceded in death by his parents; his sons Randy and Michale Gibson; 4 sisters and 8 brothers.
Visitation on Sunday, March 4, 2012 from 9AM-9PM at Lashley Funeral Home, Mio, MI, and again on Monday, March 5, 2012 at the Funeral Home from 11AM until the time of Funeral Services at 2PM with his son-in-law John Maynard officiating, Military honors with interment will follow at Kittle Cemetery, Mio, MI.
