Mr. Frank “Duke” Farrand Pfaff, Jr., age 79 of Comins, Michigan, passed away at McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital on Wednesday, November 26, 2013.
Duke was born in Alpena, Michigan on August 5, 1934 to Frank Farrand and Reva Marie (Bish) Pfaff, Sr., and was raised in Comins, MI. In 1954, he moved to Flint where he worked for General Motors AC Delco Plant and soon was drafted into the US Army 82nd Airborne until 1956. He married Lizzie Alene Cartrette on February 10, 1957 in Bennettsville, South Carolina. He returned to GM Clark Street Plant in Detroit, and lived Detroit and Farmington, retiring in 1986. He and Alene moved back to Comins after his retirement. He always had fond memories of the Knothole Bar; it was started by his father in 1919 as a gas station then was renovated to be a bar in 1923. Frank was a former member of the Elks in Farmington, and the Moose Club while in Florida. He was a member of the Comins Eagles Aerie. His favorite hobby was rebuilding and restoring John Deere tractors.
Duke is survived by his wife Alene of Comins, MI; his children: Glenn Paul (Peggy) Pfaff of Metamora, MI; and Sandra Jane Pfaff (Roger Marks) of Whitmore Lake, MI; his sister Ruth Ann Roffey of Livonia, MI; 2 grandchildren: Kristen Lee Pfaff and Kari Lynn Pfaff; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister Alice E. Pfaff; his niece Bunny Pfaff; and his nephew Tom Pfaff.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 29, 2013 from 1-9 PM at Lashley Funeral Home, Mio, Michigan; and again on Saturday, November 30, 2013 from 10 AM until the time of Funeral Services at 11AM at Comins Mennonite Church with Pastor Kevin Salsbury officiating. Interment to follow at the Fairview Cemetery, Fairview, Michigan.
