Frank David (Dave) Kuba, Jr., April 28, 1939 to March 7, 2020

The Story Begins; Born on April 28, 1939, in Magee Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA, to Frank D. Kuba, Sr. and Elizabeth Rose (Hartman) Kuba.

He was predeceased by brothers Richard, Robert, James and Leonard, along with sister Isabel Nardozzi, second wife Judy S. Kuba and stepson Michael Levengood.

He is survived by his wife of 10 years, Catherine M. (Peters) Brown-Kuba, daughters Debra Kuba McCulloch and Donna Leann Kuba, stepsons Mark Levengood, James (Beverly) Brown and Timothy (Brenda) Brown. Step-grandchildren Alicia Godbout, Christian Levengood, Mario Brown, Victoria Brown Alexa Brown and former wife Barbara Dumez.

As a youngster in Pennsylvania, he was an avid hunter of small game for the family dinner and to sell pelts to Sears and Roebuck for pocket money. While in High School, he played football and was in the band.  He also had motorcycles and drove old cars, which he continued to do throughout his life. As a teen, he worked at Oakmont Country Club and Valley Heights Golf Course as a caddie and at Blackburn Golf Course as a groundskeeper. After graduating from Plum High School in 1957, he enlisted in the US Army Reserves.  He was 4 ½ years active and 3 ½ years in-active duty.  He was honorably discharged with a rank of Specialist 4th Cla ss. While still in Pennsylvania, he worked for Howard Johnson’s for close to two years. His next profession brought him to Lansing, MI where he worked in the Optical profession.In 1975 he was asked to be manager of Soderburg Optical in Jackson, MI where he worked for 29 years before retiring and moving to Mio, MI in 2004.  While in Jackson, he was a bass guitarist for a local band, Jerry and Moonlighters, in the mid-80s. Upon moving to Mio, he became an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church where he was a Eucharistic Minister and Counter.  Because of his two motorcycle riding partners, he became a member of the Knights of Columbus.   He also joined the Lion’s Club, where he was active with White Cane on Memorial Weekend, helped with the Fishing Derbies, worked the Elimination Raffle and sold Lucky 13s.  In 2005, with his 1930 Model A, he became a member of the Au Sable Valley A’s Model A Club.  He continued with his lifelong hobbies of hunting, golfing, classic cars, motorcycles, making music and loved spending time with family and friends.

Visitation Wednesday, March 11, 2020 2-9 PM at The Lashley Funeral Home with The Vigil Prayer service and Knight of Columbus Rosary 7:30 PM. Visitation also on Thursday, March 12, 2020 from 9 - 11 AM at St. Mary Catholic Church, with The Mass of Christian Burial being celebrated at 11:00 AM, with Reverend Santiago Hoyumpa officiating, with Luncheon following at the Parish Hall. Private Interment at Kittle Cemetery Mio, MI.

Memorials may be made to Our Lady of the Woods Shrine, American Cancer Society or Leukemia Foundation.
