Eunice I. Matthews

Eunice I. Matthews, age 89, of Curran, passed away Friday, January 1, 2010, at Tendercare Nursing Center in Alpena.
Visitation Sunday, January 3, 2010 from 3-5 PM and from 7-9 PM at Lashley Funeral Home, Mio, MI; and again from Noon until the time of Funeral Service at 1 PM on Monday, January 4, 2010 at Lashley Funeral Home with Rev. Arthur Fournier officiating. Interment at Flynn Valley Cemetery, Curran.
Eunice was born on March 15, 1920 in Leonard, Michigan to Irvin and Nora (Glover) Garnett. She married Milen Matthews on November 20, 1940 in Toledo, Ohio. They moved from Rochester, MI to Curran in 1973. Eunice worked at the Curran General Store for 15 years, and was also a member of the Curran Home Extension Club. She was also a member of the Brookland and Curran Fire Departmentsâ?? Ladies Auxiliaries. Eunice enjoyed crocheting, playing BINGO, and working with the public where she could meet many different people.
Eunice is survived by her son Frank Matthews of Hubbard Lake, MI; her adopted daughter Lois Howells of Rochester Hills, MI; her half-sister Madlean Koreck of Vassar, MI; 4 grandsons and 5 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Milen Matthews in April of 1999, and 8 brothers and sisters.
