Ernest J. Green

Mr. Ernest J. Green, age 89, of Mio, MI, formerly of Davison, MI, passed away Tuesday, August 2, 2011 at his daughter's home in Swartz Creek, Michigan.Ernest was born on September 25, 1921 in Goodrich, Michigan to Ernest and Ellen Mae (Wright) Green.  He graduated from Goodrich High School with the Class of 1939 and served in the US Army Air Corp during WWII.  Ernest married Ruth Winkler on January 24, 1948 in Flint.  He retired from General Motors-Truck & Bus in Flint in 1977.  The couple moved to Mio in May of 1980, where Ernest was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, serving as Elder and maintenance man.  Ernest enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking and carpentry- building his own home and helping others build theirs.Ernest is survived by  his loving daughter Susan (Duane) Clayton of Swartz Creek, MI; his brothers:  L.G. (Joyce) Green of Pontiac, MI; Ed Green of Mio, MI; and Chuck (Jackie) Green of Newberry, MI; several grandchildren and great- grandchildren; and one great-great granddaughter.  He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Ruth on July 8, 2011; his children:  Sharon K. Kaake and Jeffery W. Green; and his sisters:  Henrietta Cousins and Ellen Jean Tottingham.Visitation Friday, August 5, 2011 from 4-8 PM at Lashley Funeral Home, Mio, MI and again on Saturday, August 6, 2011 from 10 AM until funeral service at 11 AM at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mio, MI, with Pastor Michael Sheppard officiating.   Interment at Luzerne Cemetery, Luzerne, MI.In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations may be made to St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, 75 N.
