Emmerson Earl Troyer, age 83, of Mio, passed away Wednesday, April 17, 2013, at his residence. Emmerson was born October 16, 1929 in Fairview, the oldest son of Levi L. and Stella (Detweiler) Troyer. On September 15, 1950 he married Norma Reber, with whom he enjoyed 58 years.
During his lifetime, Emmerson was a butcher, a logger, and then a custodian at Fairview School. He was a member of the Fairview Mennonite Church. Emmerson enjoyed golfing, bird watching, gardening, growing wildflowers, playing games, and working with wood. He donated many wooden items to the Northern Michigan Relief Sale.
He is survived by his daughter Ardis (Dean) Miller of Mio; Rodney (Sherry) Troyer of Mio; Brenda (David) Kauffman of Fairview; and Kyle Troyer of Tawas City; seven grandchildren: Brandon Miller, Tonia (Jason) Kaczmarek, Nicolas Troyer, Keith (Jessica) Troyer, Verena (Michael) Williamson, Almanzo and Alex Kauffman; four great-grandchildren: Quinten and Makenna Kaczmarek, Weston and Kylee Troyer. He is also survived by two brothers and two sisters: Cleta (Don) Troyer of Fairview, Perry (Alice) Troyer of Fairview, Forrest Troyer of Denver, Pennsylvania, and Janet Zook of Sobannah, Missouri. Emmerson was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and his sister Olive.
Visitation Friday, April 19, 2013 from 3 - 8 PM at Lashley Funeral Home, Mio and on Saturday, April 20, 2013 at The Fairview Mennonite Church, from 10 AM until the time of Funeral Services at 11 AM  with Pastors Phil Bontrager and Virgil Hershberger officiating. Interment at Fairview Cemetery.
