Elvin Dawson
Mr. Elvin Dawson, 70, of Mio died Monday, August 20th, 2007 at his home in Mio, MI. In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held at The Luzerne American Legion Post #162, Luzerne, MI at 2 PM on Saturday, September 8th. Interment of ashes at the Fairview Cemetery.
Elvin was born in Detroit MI on April 3, 1937 to the late Albert Harry and Florence (Barkel) Dawson. He was raised in the Brighton area and served his country in the U.S. Army as an M.P.. during the Korean War.
He worked as a Service Station Mechanic and moved to Luzerne in 1975. He later settled in Mio in 1990. Elvin was a member of The Mio Dummy Club, charter member of The Luzerne American Legion Post # 162, former volunteer fireman in Luzerne and an active volunteer throughout the community. He and Nell took in and cared for 33 foster children over the years.
Elvin is survived by his wife and best friend Nell M. (Wheeler) Dawson; daughters: Cherrie (Rodger) Welch , Jeanette (Steve) Anske, Frieda Cady (Art Laban); 2 step daughters and sister Dorothy. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren: Steven, Travis, Tiffany, Amanda and Michael; 2 great grandchildren: Trevor and Tate; 4 step grandchildren and 2 step great grandchildren.
Elvin was preceded in death by his parents; son Mark Dawson and step son Donald Canter.
