Elsie "Sue" Lucille Ellis

Elsie (Sue) Lucille Ellis, age 82 of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, passed away on Saturday, December 30, 2023, at the Ball Hospice House in Sault Ste. Marie surrounded by her family.

Elsie was born to James and Delores (Kelch) LaCroix on April 23, 1941. She married the love of her life, David Ellis, on September 20, 1958. She was a devoted wife and partner for 57 years, Together, they raised five children. Elsie loved to cook and bake and was well-known for her delicious cookies and cakes, including her specialty whoopie pies. For years, she spent much time picking and harvesting, and then preserving various berries, fruits, and vegetables for the winter. She enjoyed crocheting and gifting her creations to family, friends, and charities. She loved to sit in the sun and read her kindle books. Elsie also enjoyed helping Jason sort and organize his ever-growing Lego collection. She loved visiting with grand and great-grandchlldren.

Elsie was preceded in death by her husband David, her parents, and siblings: Gladys, Marion, Jimmy, Virginia, Donald, Gertrude, and George.

She is survived by her children: David (Edie) Ellis of Ringgold, GA; Susan (Ken) Avery of Mio, MI; Ginger (Jason) Morgan of Sault Ste. Marie, MI; Amber (Roger) Young of Chesterfield, MI ; and Merry (Michael) Bologna of Mio, MI; her ten grandchildren: Sarah, David, Randi, Sherry, Lacey, Kiley, Levi, Luke, Tristan, and Peyton; and six great-grandchildren: Quinn, Avery, Mei Li, Austin, Pierce & Jack, with Baby Martinez due in June.

Visitation on Wednesday, January 3, 2024, from 10 AM – 12 Noon at the Lashley Funeral Home, Mio, MI, with Funeral Services at 12 Noon. Pastor Willard Hotchkiss of the First Free Methodist Church of Sault Ste. Marie will officiate. Following the service, a dinner will be held in the basement of the Mio Seventh Day Adventist Church. Private interment at Kittle Cemetery, Mio, Michigan.
