Eleanor Clara "Grandma Ellie" Mclaughlin

Eleanor Clara. McLaughlin, affectionately known as Grandma Ellie, age 89, of Mio, passed away December 20, 2014, at her granddaughter's residence in Mio with her family at her side.
Eleanor was born April 17, 1925, in Scranton, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Joseph and Minnie (Kozuloski) Holtzman. She moved to Detroit in 1942 where she met and married Benjamin Franklin McLaughlin June 15, 1946. She lived in the Detroit area until she moved to Mio in 1973 where she owned and operated the Parkway House Restaurant for many years. Owning a restaurant up north was her lifelong dream. Eleanor was well known for her good cooking and homemade pies. Eleanor also loved to dance and she was a beautiful whistler.
After retiring from the restaurant, Eleanor kept busy with church activities; she was a member of the Mio United Methodist Church. She was a proud member of the VFW Auxiliary Post 4126 where she was president for over 30 years, and also a member of the Rebekah's of Mio. One of the greatest joys of her life was working for NEMSCA in the Foster Grandparent program, in the kindergarten with Annette DiPonio, at Mio Area Schools for 25 years.
Surviving are her children, Nancy McLaughlin of Clinton Township, Dennis of Punta Gorda, Florida, David of St. Helen, Kenneth (Nancy) of West Branch, Michael of Mio, Joyce Gordon of St. Helen, Kevin (Karin) of Mio, Jerry (Gilda) of West Branch, Lisa McLaughlin of St. Helen, step daughter Vivian of Cape Coral, Florida, brother Rudolph (Nancy) Holtzman of Pennsylvania, sister Esther (Bob) Stoeckel of Pennsylvania and several nieces and nephews. She has 27 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren, 16 great great grandchildren with one on the way.
She was preceded in death by her husband Benjamin, son Ronald, daughter Linda, sister Lillian Kandrot, step daughter Leatrice Lackie, grandson David Lackie, granddaughter Michelle McLaughlin and grandson Joshua Irelan.
Visitation 3-9 PM, Monday, December 22, 2014 with a Rebekah Lodge Service at 7:00 PM at the Lashley Funeral Home, Mio. Funeral Services 11:00 AM Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at The Mio United Methodist Church with Rev. Mary Von Daggenhausen officiating. Interment at Mentor Township Cemetery, Mio.
