Duane Allen Eggert

December 4, 1933 — August 3, 2022

Duane Allen Eggert, of Mio, Michigan, passed away on Wednesday, August 3, 2022 at the age of 88, after several months of decline at the Brook Retirement Community in Grayling, Michigan. He was born December 4, 1933 at the Delray Hospital in Detroit, the son of Elmer and Elma (Noble) Eggert.

Duane graduated from Western High School in Detroit with the class of 1952. On June 2, 1956 he was married to Patricia Proske at St. Gabriel’s Church in Detroit. He was drafted into the US Army Oct. 1956 and served a tour of duty in Germany until Oct. 1958. He remained with the Army reserves until Oct. 1962. They moved to Allen Park and bought their first home in 1964. He worked for AT&T  (Michigan Bell System) and after 30 years of service he retired. As Duane would say, “I bought a home in God’s country,” and they moved to Mio, Michigan in 1989. Shortly after moving there, Duane went to work with the Oscoda County Sheriff’s dept. for 17 years and retired in 2015.

Duane was an avid bowler but switched to golfing later in life. He also enjoyed working on his and his kids’ cars, and spending time in the woods either hunting or just walking around his 20 acres. Working with the Sheriff’s dept. allowed Duane to shoot the breeze with many members of the community.

He is survived by his three children, Michael Eggert of Detroit, Michigan, Matthew Eggert (JoAnne) of Medina, Ohio, and Thom Eggert (Carla) of Plymouth, Michigan; three Grandchildren, Phillip Eggert, Rebecca Pouch (Paul), and Joshua Eggert (Rachel), three Great Grandchildren, Martin, Aspen and Wesley, and loving nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Patricia, mother, Elma Eggert (Noble), father, Elmer Eggert, brothers Glenn and N. Curtiss, and sisters-in-law Christina and Lois.

A Memorial service will be held Saturday, August 20, 2022 at 1:00 PM at The Lashley Funeral Home at 318 Pearl St. Mio, Michigan.

Memorials may be made to: Telecom Pioneers Charitable Foundation, Pioneer Member Service Center, PO Box 758515, Topeka, KS 66675 or www.pioneersvolunteer.org .
