Dorothy Genevra Knepp was born September 25, 1920. Her parents were Edward and Bernice Schmid of Fairview. She passed away on Saturday, June 28, 2014. She married Carl Knepp July 8, 1940 and they had four children: Carl Jack (Betty), William Edward (Janet), Dorothy Jill (Clifford) Lietzke, and Jerry Lee (Michelle). They had 11 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, 5 step great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.
Dottie, as she was known, was active in community affairs. She was a member of the Mio Lions Auxiliary for 49 years; worked in the Fairview Post Office for 32 years (the last 6 years of this tenure as Postmaster); volunteered at the Fairview School Cafeteria for 23 years; and in 1988 joined the Comins Mennonite Church Women in Mission.
She was an avid fan of the Detroit Tigers. She also loved to read and sew. Dottie catered for many weddings, anniversaries, and family reunions.
Her many friends will miss her. Her husband and oldest son, Jack, preceded her in her passing; along with 1 great-grandchild, her parents, 3 sisters and 1 brother. She has 1 sibling left: Ruth McClew of Marlette, Michigan.
She loved her family and community and thanks each and every one for their kindness to her.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 2, 2014 from 2-8 PM at Lashley Funeral Home in Mio, and again on Thursday, July 3, 2014 at 10 AM at the Comins Mennonite Church with Funeral Services at 11 AM with Pastor Kevin Salsbury officiating. Cremation will follow the service, with interment of ashes at Fairview Cemetery at a later date.
Memorial donations may be made to the Comins Mennonite Church Mission.
