Donald E. Usrey

Donald Eugene Usrey, age 78, of Mio, passed away Thursday, March 4, 2010, at Bortz Health Care of Rose City, MI.
Visitation Sunday, March 7, 2010 from 1-4 and from 6-9 PM at Lashley Funeral Home, Mio, MI with a Vigil Prayer Service 7 P.M., followed by The Knight of Columbus 4th Degree Service and Rosary. Mr. Usrey will lay in state from 10 AM until the time of Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM on Monday, March 8, 2010 at St. Mary Catholic Church with Father Raymond Cotter officiating. Interment at Mentor Township Cemetery, Mio, with Military Honors by The Mio VFW Post #4162
Donald was born on March 20, 1931 in Pontiac, Michigan to Joseph and Nettie (Hardiman) Usrey. He served his country in the US Army during the Korean War from 1949-1953. Donald married Shirley (Crane) on June 26, 1954 at St. Benedict Catholic Church in Pontiac, MI. He worked for 30 years at the Pontiac Motor Division of General Motors as a Tool & Die Maker, and also worked for Elliot Engineering in Oxford, MI. Donald and Shirley moved to Mio in August of 1973 from Pontiac. Upon moving to Mio, Donald worked as a school bus driver for Mio AuSable Schools for 10 years. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Mio; a 4th Degree member of the Mio Knights of Columbus Council #7329; and also a member of Mio VFW Post #4162. Donald enjoyed calling BINGO at the Mio K of C Hall, bowling, wood crafts, playing cards, camping, and travelling.
Surviving are his wife Shirley; his children: Michael (Leslie) Usrey of Grayling; Steven (Theresa) Usrey of Grayling; Cathy (nee Usrey) (Lawrence) Baughman of Livonia; and Mary (nee Usrey) (Lawrence) Jaranowski of Warren; his grandchildren: Ryan, Travis, Nichole, Joey and Billy Usrey; Jennifer, Susan, and Lawrence Jaranowski; and Ashley McLeod; and his great-grandchildren: Joey, Anthony and Jordan Usrey; sisters: Marge Kerr, Delores Crisman and Mary (Jim) Allen.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers: Daune, George and Edward Usrey.
