Donald Carl Pearce, age 79, of Comins, MI, passed away Thursday, July 23, 2009 at the Home at AuSable Valley Community.
Visitation Sunday, July 26, 2009 from 1-4 and from 6-9 P.M. at Lashley Funeral Home, Mio, with a Vigil Service at 8 P.M. Mio Pearce will be taken to St. Mary Catholic Church, Mio, on Monday, July 27, 2009, where he will lay in state from 2 PM until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 3 P.M. with Father Raymond Cotter officiating. Interment at Loud Township Cemetery, with military honors offered by The Mio VFW Post # 4126.
Donald was born on February 4, 1930 in Dearborn, Michigan to the late Truman Conner and Lila Marie (Olson) Pearce. He served his country in the U.S. Armyâ??s 610th ORD Base Army Battalion during the Korean War. He also served in the U.S. Merchant Marines. He married Doris F. (Wing) Pearce at St. Bridgetâ??s Catholic Church in Detroit on May 30, 1953. The couple moved to Cheboygan where Don taught in a one-room schoolhouse for a short time. They returned to Dearborn, lived in Garden City for 14 years, then settled in Comins in 1976. Don retired from Hoskins Manufacturing after 32 years of service. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Mio and was a Charter Member of the Comins Eagles, where he had served as Chaplain for several years. Don enjoyed hunting, ice fishing, golfing, playing euchre and poker, and being outdoors. He will be missed by all.
Donald is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Doris (Wing) Pearce; his children: Pamela (Clyde) Smatlak of Shumong, NJ, Kathryn (Terry) Allen of Ypsilanti, MI, Judith (Fredrick) Rommel of Hillsboro, MO and Greg Pearce of Niles, MI; his daughter-in-law Colleen Pearce of Sarasota, Fl; his grandchildren: Michelle, Randall, Elizabeth, Stacey, Kristey, Melisa, William, John, Michael, Jessica, Nicole, and Emilee; and several great grandchildren. He also leaves behind several brothers and sisters-in-laws and many dear friends. Don was preceded in death by his parents; his son David Pearce; and his stepfather Leslie Allan.
