Donald E. Mccosh

d. January 14, 2010

Donald E. McCosh, 70, of Luzerne, passed away peacefully Thursday, January 14th, 2010, at his home, surrounded by his family.
Donald was born March 26, 1939, in Detroit, MI, to Elizabeth (Robarge) and Donald A. McCosh. Growing up in Detroit, he attended and graduated from St. Rose High School in 1957. Directly following graduation, he enlisted and served his country in the United States Army for four years in the Medic Unit.
After the service, he then hired in at entry level as a Detroit Fire Fighter in 1960. He married Joyce M. Herber on April 15, 1967. With a fierce passion, Don continued to ""climb the ladder"" through the department over the next 33 years, eventually reaching the highest level of Battalion Chief status. Throughout his years on the department, he was also a member of the Detroit Fire Department's Jet Boat/Rescue Team, and was remembered and recognized for his unique 'firehouse culinary' skills. He retired in 1993 from Detroit, and moved up to Luzerne permanently to join his wife and three daughters. He created/operated Oscoda County's Hazardous Material Response Unit, and continued to serve on the Luzerne Volunteer Fire Department for a total of 49 years of active duty, transferring to the Auxiliary this past fall.
Don served on many various organizations throughout his community ~ throughout his life. His involvement included over 14 different organizations in Oscoda County alone, in addition to helping anyone in need, at any give time. He shared a love of nature, animals, family, and a never-ending list of 'projects'.
Donald is survived by his daughters; Shawn LaFleche of Luzerne, Kari (Brian) Czarnecki of Grand Rapids, Kelly McCosh of Lexington, KY, and his grandchildren; Alison & Molli Czarnecki, and Austin & Gavin LaFleche. He was preceded in death by his wife Joyce, and his parents, Elizabeth & Donald.
