Donald R. Crowell, age 84 of Curran, Michigan, passed away at his home on Sunday, July 1, 2018.
Donald was born on January 31, 1933 in Curran, Michigan to Lyle H. and Lovda I. (Moore) Crowell. He graduated from Fairview High School in 1952. Donald worked for the DNR as a fire officer before he was married, then worked at Fairview Creamery, picking up milk when he and Ardith were first married. After a while, he got a job as a stock person for Kroger; first in Dexter, MI, then in Alpena. He worked for them until the fall of 1958. At that time, they moved back to Curran to work in the woods with Donald’s father. In 1970, Donald went to work for Michigan Transportation, driving truck until 1985. He began driving for the Amish community in 1985, and did that until he retired in 1999.
Waiting their turn to be reunited with Donald in Heaven are his children: Gwen Mallett, Sandra (Ben) Bills, Donita (Henry) Charron, and Judy (Mike) Rouleau; his grandchildren: Danette (Jim) May, Robert (La Shan) Mallett, Aaron (Alyssa) White, Billie Jean Bills, Gregory Bills, Christopher (C.J.) Charron, Morgan (James) Wiedbrauk-Crowell, and Johnna (Gary) Wiedbrauk, his great-grandchildren: Shay Kobel, Autumn May, Landon Mallett, Austin White, Cullen Durfee, Kyla Durfee, Aiden Charron, Gaige Stanley, Liz Stanley, Aiden Stanley, and Layla Stanley; his sister Leila Crowell-Latreille, his sisters-in-law Judith (Ted) Hill and Nancy Toman; his brother-in-law Merlin (Sally) Shantz; his best friend Jim Hauk; many members of the extended family, and many nieces and nephews. Greeting Donald in Heaven, along with Our Lord and Savior, is his wife of 62 years, Ardith Crowell; their stillborn daughter Shirley; his parents: Lyle H. and Lovda I. Crowell; his father and mother-in-law: Melvin J. and Reathel G. Shantz; his brothers-in-law: Ray G. Latreille, Bryce R. Shantz, and Harold Milam; and his sister-in-law Anna Shantz-Milam.
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 6, 2018 from 10 AM – 2 PM at Lashley Funeral Home, Mio, Michigan; with Funeral Services at 2 PM, also at Lashley Funeral Home, with Pastor Cody Gascho officiating. Interment at Flynn Valley Cemetery, Curran, Michigan.
Memorial donations may be directed to Praxis Church or to Hospice Compassus/ Atlanta.
