Dennis James Ertman

Dennis James Ertman, 70, passed away unexpectedly on June 10th, 2022 .

Dennis was the first of 4 children born to Floyd and Martha (Abraham) Ertman on May 30th, 1952, in Hamtramck, Michigan. A 1970 graduate of John Glenn High School in Westland, Michigan, Dennis went on to become a Master Mechanic with certifications in Heavy Duty Truck, Gas & Diesel Engine Repair, Drive Trains, Brakes, Suspension & Steering, and Electrical Systems. He retired from Wayne County Road Commission doing what he loved.

Long-time resident of Belleville, Michigan, Dennis sold his beloved lake house on Belleville Lake in 2019 where he spent countless hours boating, landscaping his property and remodeling his home. Many hours were also spent in his garage working on his many cherished motorcycles and other vehicles that he took much pride in - including restoring his most recent baby, 1969 “Judge” GTO. Dennis moved north to Mio, Michigan near his only sister, Deborah (Ertman) and late husband, John Tripp.

Dennis spent time riding his Harley Davidsons across many states. He was always looking for car shows to check out or even to show off his own vehicles with his brother, David and sister, Deborah. He was very proud of the multiple “Best In Show” trophies he earned with his pride & joy, GTO.

Dennis was preceded in death by his father, Florian Ira Chester Ertman, and his brother-in-law, John Michael Tripp, paternal grandparents, Sylvester “Bob” and Emma (Fisher) Ertman and maternal grandparents, Joseph and Anna (Osentoski) Abraham.

Dennis leaves behind his mother, Martha Frances Ertman of Canton, Michigan; Siblings, Patrick Joseph Ertman of Canton, Michigan, Deborah Ann (Ertman) Tripp of Fairview, Michigan; and David Allen Ertman (Kathy) of Westland; niece & godchild, Martha Kristine Boesen of Gaylord, Michigan, nephew & godchild David Nicholas Ertman (Laura) of Traverse City, Michigan; niece, Chelsey Marie Ertman of Canton, Michigan. great-nieces, McKenzie “Litttle One” Kristine Boesen of Gaylord, and Madison Marie Babody of Canton, Michigan, great-nephew, Kolson Wayne Ertman of Canton, Michgan. And, of course, 1969 “Judge” GTO.

Visitation to pay respects will be at St. Mary’s Church on Thursday, June 16, 2022 from 11:00 AM -1:00 PM.

A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary’s Church in Mio, Michigan on Thursday, June 16, 2022 at 1:00 PM, with Fr. Santiago Hoyumpa officiating. A small luncheon to follow in St. Mary’s reception hall.
