Delphine Irene Brumer Yoder
December 9, 1920 to February 5, 2011
Delphine Yoder, longtime resident of Comins, MI and Oscoda County, passed away Saturday, February 5 at Christian Park Health Care Center in Escanaba, MI at age 90. She was born on December 9, 1920 to parents John and Gertrude Brumer in Detroit, MI. Delphine married Richard E. Yoder in October 1953 and moved to Comins to help run the family farm where she did all the book keeping and collected eggs from several hundred chickens. Richard preceded her in death in 1977. Delphine is survived by their 4 children and spouses: James R. Yoder (Jeanette) of Escanaba, MI; Suzanne Yoder of Houston, TX; Peter Yoder (Karen) of Houston, TX; and Robert Yoder (Amy) of Lawrenceville, GA; 4 grandchildren Jessica and Emily Yoder of Lawrenceville, GA; Samantha Yoder of Houston, TX; Shellie Barnes (Jon) of Fairview, MI; 3 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren; and a brother Eugene Brumer of Detroit, MI. She was preceded in death by her parents John and Gertude and 4 brothers Ernie, John, Alex and Harry Brumer. Delphine was an active member of the Comins Mennonite Church for 42 years, taught Sunday School, was a member of the Women's Mission, served on the Board as Treasurer, and other organizations in the Oscoda County area. In her younger years, she was Supervisor of the Comptometer Department of U.S. Rubber Company for 12 years; she worked at Fairview Lumber and retired from the Oscoda County Council on Aging and Senior Center in Comins in 1985. Delphine canned fruit and vegetables from their garden, did baking and handwork which she entered in the Montmorency County Fair winning over 300 ribbons and won the State Homemaker of the Year Award. Delphine was an avid quilter for many years and enjoyed playing cards with everyone. She loved life and visiting with family and friends most of all.
Cremation has taken place. The family invites everyone to a memorial time of visiting Saturday April 23, 2011 at the Lashley Funeral Home, Mio from 1 to 3 PM and to a Memorial Service at the Comins Mennonite Church offered by Pastor Kevin Salsbury Monday April 25, 2011 at 11 AM. A burial of ashes will follow the service at the Fairview Cemetery in Fairview, MI.
