David R. Ellis

David Robert Ellis, 77, of Mio, MI passed away on Monday June 29th 2015, in his home surrounded by the ones he loved.
David was born to Richard and Alice (Booth) Ellis in 1938 in Mio, MI. He attended Mio AuSable High School from 1954-1958. He went on to marry his beloved wife, Elsie on September 20, 1958.
David worked in the woods alongside his father until moving to Lapeer and taking a foundry job. David and Elsie moved back to Mio after the birth of their third child. They have been residents of Mio since that time and had two more children. David had a great work ethic and worked in various pallet shops and lumber yards until his illness prevented him from working anymore in January of 2015.
David loved to play card games with friends and family and also enjoyed being in the woods. Whether he was hunting for Morel mushrooms, picking various wild berries, or cutting trees to provide his own firewood to sell or heat the family home. The woods was definitely a favorite place to be for David. He could name pretty much any tree out there! David was also an active member of the Mio Seventh-day Adventist church where he served for many years as a deacon. David gave his life to the Lord and continued to serve Him until the end.
David is preceded in death by his parents, sister Alice Ellis, and brother Douglas Ellis.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, his children: David (Edie) Ellis, of Carson City, MI. Susan (Ken) Avery, of Mio, MI Ginger (Jason) Morgan, of Sault Sainte Marie, MI Amber (Roger) Young, of Chesterfield, MI and Merry Ellis (fiancee: Michael Bologna), of Traverse City, MI. His eight grandchildren: Sarah, David, Randi, Sherry, Lacey, Kiley, Levi, and Luke, and six great grandchildren: Quinn, Avery, Mei Li, Austin, Pierce, and Jack. Also, nine siblings: Lyle, Sherman, Faith, Beverly, Frank, Daniel, Frances, Cyril (Joe), and Rosemary.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday July 1st 2015 from 1-9 PM at the Lashley Funeral Home in Mio, Michigan.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday July 2, 2015 at 11:00 AM at the Mio Seventh-day Adventist Church with Gary Wood and Warren Stutesman officiating.
Burial will follow at the Kittle Cemetery.
A Dinner will be held in the basement of the church following the burial.
