Cletus Patrick ""Mac"" McVeigh, age 91 of Mio, MI, passed away on Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at his home.
Mac was born on July 6, 1921 in Spalding, Nebraska to Patrick and Blanche (Foster) McVeigh.  He served his country as a Sergeant in the US Army during WWII, then moved to Detroit in 1946.  He worked for Nabisco, then known as National Biscuit Company, in Detroit.  He married Mary McMurtrie on January 11, 1947.  They moved to Mio in August of 1973, where Mac owned and operated McVeigh Truck Springs.  and served as a firefighter for the Tri-Town Fire Department from 1975-1981. Mac was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and was a 4th Degree member of the Mio Knights of Columbus Council #7329. He enjoyed camping, playing cards (especially Euchre), and spending time with family and friends.  Mac was an avid Detroit Tigers fan, and he loved polka music.
Surviving are his children: James (Beverly) McVeigh of Mio; Thomas (Jeanette) McVeigh of Mio; and Janet (Brett) Winslow of West Branch; his grandchildren: Jennifer, Chris, Danielle, Todd, Andrew, and Aaron; and his great-grandchildren: Gavin, Gabe, Ethan, Madison, Breanna, Myka and Dylan.  He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Mary in 2009.
Visitation Wednesday, March 27, 2013 from 1-9 PM with a Vigil Prayer Service and a Knights of Columbus 4th Degree service and Rosary beginning at 7 PM at the Lashley Funeral Home, Mio, MI.  Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 28, 2013 at 10 AM with viewing from 9AM until the time of service, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Mio, MI, with Rev. Santiago Hoyumpa officiating.  Interment to follow at Mentor Township Cemetery, Mio, MI, with Military Honors offered by the Luzerne American Legion Post #162.
Memorial donations may be made to the Tri-Town Fire Department, 1508 West 11th Street, Mio, MI  48647.
