Cleo N. Sheldon, age 90 of Comins, Michigan, passed away at her son’s home on Sunday, October 3, 2021.
Cleo was born in Oxford, Michigan on March 9, 1931 to George and Mildred (Covey) Carroll. She married Eugene Layman and raised their family in Fairview. They moved to Rock, Michigan in the Upper Peninsula where Cleo was an active Avon sales person. She achieved their President’s Award for sales. The couple returned to Fairview in the late 1980’s. Following Eugene’s death, Cleo was remarried to Donald Sheldon. The couple settled in Johannesburg. Following Donald’s death, Cleo moved to Grayling to be closer to her brother. Cleo had enjoyed making jewelry and flower gardening. She loved a well-kept lawn and home, and was meticulous in her housekeeping of both. To her grandchildren, Cleo was lovingly known as “Gram” or “Grammy”. She also loved her beloved dogs.
Cleo is survived by her son Eugene “Sam” (Dana) Layman, Jr. of Comins, Michigan; 7 grandchildren: Ryan (Raine) Layman, David (Maria) Layman, Katie (Kevin) Freel, Jacob (Laurin) Layman, Billy Toyra, Nicole Miller, and Karry (Carlo) Vignaroli; 13 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband Eugene Layman, Sr., her second husband Donald Sheldon, her daughter Vickie Toyra, 2 sisters, and 5 brothers.
Visitation on Thursday, October 7, 2021 from 12 Noon – 1 PM at the Lashley Funeral Home, Mio, MI, with Funeral Services at 1 PM with Pastor Kevin Salsbury officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Fairview, Michigan.
