Mr. Claude V. Thorpe, age 72, of Mio, passed away Sunday, December 14, 2008 at his home.
Visitation from 5-9 P.M. Tuesday, December 16, 2008 at Lashley Funeral Home, Mio, Ml, with a Prayer Vigil offered at 7 P.M. by St. Mary Parish, followed by 4th Degree Honors and Rosary offered by St. Mary Assembly #2371 of the Knights of Columbus. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrated on Wednesday, December 17, 2008 at 11 A.M. at St. Mary Catholic Church, Mio, with Fr. Raymond Cotter presiding. A Mass of Christian Burial also to be celebrated on Friday, December 19, 2008 at 11 A.M. at St. Mary Catholic Church, Mt. Morris, Ml with Fr. Andrew Czajkowski presiding. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Mt. Morris, Ml, with Military Honors offered.
Mr. Thorpe was born on August 27, 1936 in Flint, Michigan to Harold and Lila Ruth (Oaks) Thorpe. Claude served in the U.S. Army where he received a degree in Electrical. He worked at many jobs through the years: trucking, roofing, janitorial and Buick Motors. He retired from Wolverine Fire Protection after a number of years. Claude was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Mio, and a former member of St. Mary Parish in Mt. Morris, Ml. He belonged to the Secular Order of Discalced Carmelites, the Fatima Apostolate Prayer Group, the Knights of Columbus Council #7329 in Mio, as a 3rd Degree Knight, and St. Mary Assembly #2371 as a 4th Degree Knight. Claude also served on the Ambulance Board in Mio; the ""United We Care"" food drop in Oscoda County; and as V.P. on the Seniors Board of Oscoda County.
Mr. Thorpe is survived by his wife Blanche of Mio; 4 children: Mark A. Thorpe of Flint; Daniel V. Thorpe of Mt. Morris; Theresa A. Parker of Grand Rapids; and Cheryl R. Beers of Mio; 5 grandchildren; 3 sisters: Dorothy Mitchell of Holly; Shirley Bernard of Oklahoma; and Barbara Simmons of Petoskey; and several nieces and nephews.
