Carl V. Sutherland

Carl V. Sutherland, age 81, of Mio, passed away at his home on Wednesday, June 12, 2013.  He was born on May 29, 1932 in Decker, MI the son of Silas and Esther (LaRoque) Sutherland.  He served in the United States Navy from 1950 to 1952, as well as the United States Army from May 1952 to November of 1952 when he received an honorable discharge due to suffering an injury to his back during service.  He was awarded his Expert Marksman badge in June of 1952.   He was a standing member of the American Legion Post 0162 in Luzerne, MI; as well as a standing member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Comins, MI.
He married Linda L. Krause in Argyle, MI on August 21, 1954.  He is survived by his wife,  his children, Carl Richard Sutherland of Page, AZ; Rhonda (Randy) Chappel of Lexington, MI; Robin (Michael) Fitzgerald of Interlochen, MI; Roger (Sharon) Sutherland of Snover, MI; and Rodney Sutherland of Mio, nine grandchildren; seven great grandchildren, a brother Merle, sisters,  Ruth (Joe) Senopole, Barbara Poe, Donna (Gene) Wilson, Louise Buehrle, and half-sister Pamela Kemmis. He was preceded in death by his parents and infant grand-daughter, Jennifer Sutherland.
He received the very best of care from Mercy Hospice of Grayling.  The family would like to thank his hospice nurse Courtney, Ruth his personal assistant, and Crystal his Compassionate Care assistant.  Memorials may be made to Mercy Hospice of Grayling.
The family was represented by Lashley Funeral Home of Mio, and upon his wishes, cremation has been taken place.
