Betty Velma Miller

Betty ""Velma"" Dixon Miller, 90, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, November 26, 2007 at Schowalter Villa, Hesston Kansas.
Viewing will be at Lashley Funeral Home from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Friday, November 30, 2007 and from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 1, 2007, with funeral services at 11:00 AM at the Fairview Mennonite Church, with Pastor Eldon Krider officiating. Interment at Fairview Cemetery.
She was born November 23, 1917 in Bloomington, Illinois to Morgan and Elizabeth Webb Dixon. After her mother's death at age 7, she lived at the Salem Children's Home until age 16 when she moved to Detroit. She married Clayton Miller on October 10, 1937 who preceded her in death in 2003. Clayton and Velma made their home in Fairview, Michigan where 3 their daughters were born to this union. Velma moved to Hesston, Kansas in March 2007.
Velma accepted the Lord as her Savior at the age of 12. As a young Mother in her 20's, she took her family to visit the Salem Children's Home and was quoted in the newsletter, ""If I can be an example in my own home as those loved ones in the Children's Home have been to me, I am sure the Lord will be well pleased."" Her life of service and love to her family, church, and community certainly exemplified this goal. We know she was welcomed by her Heavenly Father with the phrase, ""Well done, Velma, my good and faithful servant!""
Survivors include: Daughters, Betty Handrich and husband Ron, Patricia Brenneman and husband Joe, Marcia Miller and friend Sharon Swartley. Grandchildren: Rick Handrich and wife Pam, Mitch Handrich, Pam Weaver and husband Don, Doug Brenneman and wife Marci, Jim Brenneman and wife Christy, and Trisha Miller. Great Grandchildren: Austin and Shelby Handrich, Kara and Julie Weaver, Katie and Max Brenneman, Kylie and Grant Brenneman.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that memorial contributions be to Salem Children's Home, 15161 W. 400 E Road, Flanagan, IL 61740.
