Bayard "Jack" Cournyer

October 1, 1934 — July 2, 2018

Bayard John "Jack" Cournyer, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 2, 2018 at Munson Grayling Hospital after a brief illness.

A Lifetime resident of Oscoda County, he was born on October 1, 1934. Jack was a printer by trade and the Cournyer family published the Oscoda County News for many years. He was also an avid fisherman, hunter, archer and amateur pilot. In his retirement, he built his own lite plane, and enjoyed flying it around the county, surviving a few crash landings. In recent years, he spent winters in Texas with his daughter Cathy and her family. Jack was a regular at the Bellaire (Texas) Coffee Shop and the Mio McDonald’s, where he spent many hours in lively conversation with friends around the table.

Jack is survived by his wife Pauline (Booth) Cournyer of Mio, MI; his daughter Cathleen (John) Riggs of Bellaire, TX; his sister Marie (John) Schanck of Mio, MI; his brother Reuben (Nancy) Cournyer of Ocala, FL; 3 grandchildren: Keith (Jordanna), Kevin, and Jack Riggs; his son-in-law Casey Allen; 1 expected great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Carlene Allen, and his sister Barbara Farthing.

In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. A visiting for family and friends will be held Thursday, July 5, 2018, from 6 – 8 PM at the TriPoint Church of God, and also on Friday, July 6, 2018, from 10 -10:45 AM at TriPoint Church of God with a Memorial service held at 11 AM with Pastor Chris Bones officiating. Interment of ashes will take place at Kittle Cemetery, Mio, Michigan, at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Take a Kid Fishing/Kids Fishing Foundation, or Tri Point Church of God Building Fund, or the American Heart Association.
