Barbara J. Wilson (nee Fessler), age 75, of Luzerne, left our presence to be with our Lord and predeceased family members on Friday, June 18, 2010. Barbara passed away while at home with her loving daughters Tina Wilson and Vicky DeRoven.
Barbara was born on November 13, 1934 in Detroit, Michigan. She moved to the Luzerne, Michigan area in 1965, with her husband Norman, who was the former Fire Chief of Luzerne/Big Creek Township. Barbara was active in the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, and also the Mio Lions Club. Barbara loved the area and worked tirelessly and unselfishly in her public service positions for the benefit of people and her community. She served as an elected County Commissioner for Oscoda County for a number of years; as a member of the North East Michigan Council of Government, and was appointed by Governor James Blanchard to serve on the Community Corrections Board, and was subsequently re-appointed, serving for more than 10 years.
Barbara shall be sadly missed, but fondly remembered by her daughters: Vicky (Marshall) DeRoven and Tina Wilson; her grandsons: Michael Heinemann and Adam (Julianne)Heinemann; her great-grandson Andrew Richard; her brother Richard D. (Marsha) Fessler; her favorite nephew ""son"" Dr. Richard D. (Dr. Cathy Fessler) Fessler and children; and many other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Norman Wilson; and her brother John A. Fessler.
Visitation will be held on Monday, June 21, 2010 from 3-8 PM at Lashley Funeral Home, Mio, MI, and again on Tuesday, June 22, 2010 from 11 AM until the time of Funeral Services at 1 PM, also at Lashley Funeral Home, Mio, with Mr. James Slasinski officiating. Interment at Luzerne Cemetery.
