Aurelio ""Randy"" Marzolo, age 64, of Fairview, passed away Friday, January 8, 2010, at his home, surrounded by his family. Visitation Monday, January 11, 2010, from 1-4 and from 6-9 PM at Lashley Funeral Home, Mio, MI. A Vigil Prayer Service offered by St. Maryâ??s Parish at 7:00 PM followed by a Rosary offered by the Knights of Columbus. Visitation from 10 AM until the time of Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM on Tuesday, January 12, 2010 at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father Raymond Cotter officiating. Interment at Fairview Cemetery. Aurelio was born on December 6, 1945 in Onna, Italy to Arimondo and Angela (Pezzopane) Marzolo. He came to the U.S. with his family on the Conte Bianco Mano in 1951. He graduated from Dearborn Fordson High School in 1964. Aurelio worked as a lifeguard for 4 summers at Camp Dearborn. He was always active in sports, enjoying softball, racquetball, tennis, and golf. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War from 1966-1968. Aurelio then graduated from Michigan State University with degrees in Forestry and Environmental Education. After graduation, he worked for the U.S. Forest Service in Colorado and Manistique, MI before settling in Mio in 1978. During his career in Mio, he was responsible for planting over 16 million trees. He married Laurie (Duemler) in 1980, and they had three children: Matt, Angela, and Lea. Aurelio was a longtime member of the Society of American Foresters; a 3rd Degree member of the Mio Knights of Columbus; and a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, having served on the Parish Council. He was a Charter Member of the Eagle Spirit/Eagle Pride booster group, including several years as President. Aurelio was an avid gardener- supplying many in the community with vegetables, a Christmas tree farmer, and loved spending time with his family. Aurelio is survived by his wife Laurie; his children: Matt, Angela and Lea; his siblings: Enzo (Mary) Marzolo, Pio (Carol) Marzolo, and Diva (Lyn) Williams; many nieces and nephews; his in-laws: Richard and Marilyn Duemler; his dear friends: Diane Drogowski, Barb Pavlovich, Mi Hyoung Yu, and many others. He was preceded in death by his parents: Arimondo and Angela (Pezzopane) Marzolo. Memorial donations may be made to either St. Mary's Scholarship Fund c/o St. Mary's Catholic Church, P.O. Box 189, Mio, MI 48647; or to the family for the creation of a scholarship fund for student study abroad. Arrangements by Lashley Funeral Home, Mio.
