Effie was born on May 17, 1926, the fourth child of Russell and Isel Shoemaker of Peru, Ind., Effie’s birth was of great joy to her parents following three brothers Gail, Gordon and Jack. On Dec.10, 2013, in the care of her son Jay and daughter-in-law Joan with her husband Richard at her side she left this world to enter eternal life in heaven. We, her family, will mourn her passing but take comfort she is now with her Lord and Savior.

Penny and Effie joined the community of Mio in 1954 with their children, Peggy (John), Jay (Joan) and Linda. Of great sorrow to Effie, Penny passed away in 1992 followed by the passing of Linda in 2008. As the years passed she found joy, love and companionship with her second soul mate Richard. They were married in 2009.

Effie was a vibrant, artistic, creative and active person her entire life with the exception of recent months when illness limited her activities. Her compassion for others, her community service through her membership in the Eastern Stars, Rebekahs, American Legion, Mio United Methodist Church and numerous other organizations throughout her lifetime are testament of her commitment to her family, to her church and to her community and to her many friends.
