Allan David Bickford

Allan D. “Al” Bickford, age 75 of Mio, Michigan, passed away at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City, Michigan on Wednesday, June 14, 2023.


Al was born in Detroit, Michigan on August 31, 1947 to Wilbur E. and Mildred L. (Fisher) Bickford.  He went into the Army from there. The Army wanted him to re-enlist, but he chose to enlist instead in the Air Guard. After his military service, Al became a Detroit police officer. Upon his retirement, he moved North, settling in Mio. He built a house and helped build a church.  For fun, he became a HAM radio operator, then got involved in CERT (Community Emergency Response Team). He volunteered with the American Red Cross and the Salvation Army. He also drove people to doctor’s appointments for Love Inc. and also helped build for them. Al belonged to the VFW and the American Legion. He loved the Lord and helping people.

Al is survived by his wife Diane Bickford; his children: Kevin (Tracy) Bickford, Janet Bickford (Shaft Sanders), Marques (Jessica) Thomey, and Kurt (Colette) Lindemann; his grandchildren: Kevin, Brad (Jessica), Dan (Liz), Brady, Nick, and Caleb; and his great-grandchildren: Cora, Dean, Raelyn, Jackson, and Ellie. He was preceded in death by his parents: Wilbur and Mildred Bickford, and his brother Bruce Bickford.

Visitation on Monday, June 19, 2023 from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM at the TriPoint Church of God, Mio, MI, with Funeral Services at 1 :00 PM with Pastor Jody Coon officiating. In accordance with his wishes, cremation will follow the services.
